Sho Tengo Hombre

HELLO HELLO EVERYONE!! Okay so I don't have a ton of time to write and email BUT I am here in Uruguay!! For all y'all that are just being added to my list this week, we had some weird stuff go down, and I got to Uruguay just this Saturday. The flight was 12 years long but seriously SO much fun. Kinda weird being by yourself for long periods of time after literally having someone with you at all hours of the day for months on end. So yeah, they gave us two meals on the plane from Miami to Uruguay and so that was bougie. THEN I got here like early in the morning and I've been partying hard ever since! We got to go see the temple and meet the mission president and his wife, who are just the sweetest people in the world, and they're from Chile so I can totally understand their Spanish (thanks Dad). I met my comp, Hermana Gilbert who's from Kaysville, Utah (no we have never met each other before) and just the sweetest and also an absolute machine at Spanish. Then we had a chaotic day and to be honest I can't remember any of it. But I am currently living with two other sisters as well, Hermana Wilson and Hermana Johnson, who are some of the funniest people I've ever met, and just so sweet and also stellar at Spanish. It's pretty cool to watch. It's kinda complicated cause our mission is growing rapidly cause like every two days there are more missionaries coming in, so we are sharing an apartment while we wait for them to get a new apartment, but we all share a ward. Although we don't know the boundaries for where we're splitting stuff, so we're just doing stuff as a cuatro right now. Honestly so much fun. But yeah we went to church on Sunday and it was wild cause catch me walking down the dirt road in a dress and a tag and saying Hola to people as I walk past them. Everything I ever dreamed a mission being. (Definitely not complaining about my brand new Chevy Equinox with 40 miles on it that I had in Maryland though) So yeah at church everything was in Spanish so that was chaotic. They had me go up and introduce myself and I literally could not stop laughing after cause y'all I don't speak Spanish so this is what I said. "Hi my name is Hermana Allen, I'm from Utah, I have been living in Uruguay for one day. And... yeah. In the name of Jesus Christ, amen." Which honestly is so comedic of me. Those poor members probably have just low expectations for me which is either gonna be very good or very bad. After church, we went for lunch to some members house, and it was SO fun. The dad was going to drive us back to his house, but we were talking to some members, and he said "Hermanas if you're hungry you gotta stop talking and come with me" and I am hungry is "yo tango hambre" and Hermana Wilson goes "SI SI yo tengo hombre!" Which literally means YES I have a man! Which the family couldn't stop making fun of her for. Also, which the subject line, people here say their Y's like SH so it's like "sho soy Hermana allen" super cute. Anyway so after we said we had men, we hopped in the back of this dudes moving van, which he literally locked us in there and we were sitting on the floor bouncing around (oops don't tell the safety zone peeps) and we got to his house and then had a FOREVER long meal where everyone just spoke rapid fire Spanish. I could understand a good chunk of it so that was awesome! The mom spoke a little bit of English, so every time someone would say a word she knew, she would just shout the English word so I would understand. It was comedic ahaha. As for the food here? It's not horrible. But it's not great. From what I've had, it ranges from okay this isn't bad, to yeah I think I have to decide either if I'm gonna throw up or leave this little section on my plate. I'm sure I'll be used to it in a couple months though haha. But in general, LIFE IS SO GOOD!! Spanish is so fun even if I have no idea what the heck is happening at all times.

And as for a spiritual thought? This gospel is true. What I'm doing is certifiably insane. I literally don't speak Spanish and here I am, telling people about God and supposedly changing lives, with like two words I know. That is a testament that this gospel is true. If the Lord can use an instrument like me, then wow. He's really got it together cause that's impressive. This gospel is true!! It's so cool!! And so is Uruguay! I already love the people here so much it's crazy.

Welp, I hope yall had a great week! I sure love you all, and I hope you're partying hard!

- Hermana Allen (catch me signing this as Hermana Allen except this is the first time anyone has actually ever called me that)
